I have bought the Razer Nostromo gamepad already a while ago, without using it much. This weekend I finally dusted it off and found a decent first configuration for EVE.
The main key field nicely maps to the three rows of module slots. Since I am quickest with my index and middle finger, I have assigned the keys from right to left, so that the index finger rests on F1, middle on F2 and so on in the top row. This is mirrored compared to the client where F1 activates the leftmost module, but I find it is a very quick learn to make this transformation in your head. The thumb is used to press CTRL for target locks, drone commands and ship speed and finally SHIFT for overloading of modules. Last but not least the wheel is programmed to switch between targets. For this final function to work properly, the default “look-at” hotkey has to be disabled in the client.
So far it feels very natural. Remember to set your broadcast-for-reps hotkey “B” to the right type (shield/armor) before you undock.
I am curious to see how the setup will do in the long term and what tweaks and reiterations I will make on it. A first issue that I am currently thinking about is the mode change for T3 destroyers.
